District Attorney Robert Manzi is reminding residents and businesses that starting today, skill games are unlawful in Pennsylvania.
This comes after a ruling on June 15th of this year by the State Supreme Court saying that the games fall under the definition of “slot machines”, which can only be in place at casinos and certain authorized truck-stops. The court gave lawmakers 120 days to enact or amend any laws addressing these machines, and today marks the end of that period, with no such action taken.
In a release, Manzi says that the games and their proceeds are now subject to forfeiture, and any person operating these machines are subject to criminal prosecution. He also says that enforcement efforts by state police will take place over the next few weeks.
He adds that anyone who would like their position heard regarding these machines should contact their state legislators.
