The Pirates have promoted director of player analysis Justin Newman to director of amateur scouting, making him the key man in evaluating prospects for next year’s MLB Draft. Newman has been with the Pirates organization for ten years.
With the Bucs having received lottery picks in the last two seasons, they’re not eligible to choose higher than 10th overall in the next draft, and because they finished over .500 this season, they are projected to pick lower in the first round, somewhere around the 17th selection.
The MLB Draft order will not be determined until after the playoffs are over and the draft lottery is held.
