Not exactly a banner day for the Pirates’ prospects yesterday in the Arizona Fall League. Wyatt Sanford, Jhonny Severino, and Easton Carmichael went a combined 1-for 11 in a 10-2 Glendale loss to Peoria and Zander Mueth gave up three earned runs in a third of an inning on the mound.
MLB PLAYOFFS
The Cleveland Guardians scored six runs in the sixth inning and rallied to beat the White Sox 9-5 last night to force a decisive Game Five in Cleveland in the American League Divisional Series. The winner tomorrow will play the Tampa Bay Rays for the AL championship. The Dodgers and Brewers will play the National League Championship Series starting on Sunday.
MLB/MLBPA CONTRACT TALKS
Major League Baseball has proposed shortening its regular season from 162 games to 154, expanding the Division Series from a best-of-five to a best-of-seven format, and permitting higher-seeded teams to choose their opponents in the Wild Card and Division Series rounds.
The proposals were presented during labor talks with the MLB Players Union. The union remains opposed to MLB’s proposed salary cap, which the owners have tied to the schedule changes.
