One man was flown to the hospital after his arm was buried under rocks in a collapse reported yesterday at the Heidelburg Materials Torrance Quarry in Derry Township.
The incident was reported around 6:00 PM at the facility on Quarry Road. Derry fire officials said the victim was drilling a hole in a limestone mine about three-quarters of a mile underground when a rock fell in. As the victim reached in to take it out, debris from around the hole fell around his hand, trapping him in place. After first responders freed him, he was airlifted to Indiana Regional Medical Center for further examination.
Crews from the Blairsville fire department assisted on-scene.
