Criminal Call hearings are scheduled for today for Indiana County Courts, including a few recent major cases.
One of those cases is a stabbing that happened in January of this year in Indiana Borough. Court documents show 31-year-old Detrolen Hobbs of Baltimore is charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, burglary and possession of an instrument of crime for the incident on January 21st. Police said that he went to the home where the victim worked as a care giver on Oak Street and stabbed her. A quick response from EMTs and Indiana Borough and IUP police were responsible for saving the victim’s life. In June, he pleaded guilty to all four charges, but then withdrew the pleas on September 29th.
Another case for criminal call today is 34-year-old Brandon Eckles. The Indiana man faces four counts of aggravated indecent assault, three counts of indecent assault and one count of corruption of a minor for an investigation that started on November 12th of last year. Indiana Borough Police said Eckles had sexually abused a child starting when the victim was 11 and continued for two years. Charges in this case were held for court in April.
Criminal Call Hearings are designed to update the court and the parties involved on the progress of a case. Proceedings are usually postponed to a later date, but on occasion, guilty pleas have been entered at the Criminal Call phase.
