Yesterday, the state house passed a bill that would allow independent and third-party voters to take part in primary elections.
House Bill 280 would allow those not affiliated with the Democrat or Republican parties to vote on the ballot of their choice. As of right now, primaries are limited to those in the two major parties. The bill passed mostly along party lines as all but four Democrats were joined by 16 Republicans in approving the bill.
State Representatives Jim Struzzi and Brian Smith voted against the measure that now heads to the Senate. Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman said his fellow Republican Senators will look to tie Voter ID to the bill.
