Indiana Fire Association officials have released details on a crash on West Pike Road and a house fire on Washington Street on Monday.
The rear-end chain-reaction crash was just west of Summit Church and involved four vehicles. One of them was on fire in a yard with a potential exposure to the house nearby. No one was trapped in their vehicles and four were taken to the hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not been released. Crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control. No word as to what sparked the vehicle fire. Citizens Ambulance, Indiana Borough and State Police assisted on the scene.
The other major call of the day was an electrical fire at 10:15 PM on Washington Street. The homeowner noticed smoke coming from a light in the kitchen. The light had overheated and started to ignite the surrounding wood blocking and insulation had started to smolder. Crews were able to access the roof area and were able to move insulation away from the heat source. The fire did not extend beyond the electrical circuitry. Officials said it was a “close call” but the homeowner was awake at the time, noticed the problem and called 911 immediately.
