Mike Tomlin always held his weekly news conferences on Tuesdays, but new Steelers coach Mike McCarthy prefers Monday, and yesterday McCarthy talked about the win over Atlanta on Sunday and the start of preparations for this coming Sunday’s game at New England…and a lot about Joey Porter Jr.
McCarthy says there is a lot of room for improvement from Week One to Week Two.
McCarthy says the Steelers’ offensive performance and his playcalling, which he called “herky jerky”, can be much better, but it’s very early in the season.
The coach says he expects Porter to practice more this week and continue to make progress toward suiting up in a game, perhaps against the Patriots.
While McCarthy seems hopeful for Porter’s return, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Steelers are open to trading the cornerback. DetroitLionsPodcast.com’s Jeff Risdon reports the Lions have called the Steelers about Porter, with John Maakaron of LionsOnSI claiming the price tag could be two future first-round draft picks.
