The Pirates carried some anger into their game yesterday at Wrigley Field, after blowing Saturday’s game and doing serious damage to their fading playoff hopes. Brandon Lowe came off the bench to make key plays at the plate and in the field for a Bucco win.

Lowe also made a leaping catch of a line drive in the eighth inning to preserve the lead.
Manager Donnie Kelly says the win made it a good road trip to Chicago for the Bucs.
The Pirates are off today and will welcome the Milwaukee Brewers to PNC Park tomorrow on Roberto Clemente Day across Major League Baseball.
On Pirates Insider on WCCS yesterday, general manager Ben Cherington said All-Star pitcher Braxton Ashcraft, who was placed on the injured list last week, does not appear to have any structural damage to his sore pitching arm.
Cherington says the team has no timeline for Ashcraft’s return.
Cherington said Esmerlyn Valdez’s season is over. He was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain on Saturday.
