Students at Saltsburg Elementary School will return to the building for classes on Monday.
Students have been on remote learning programs since late August as the district had identified mold concerns in the building. Acting Superintendent Regina Geesey said that test results provided to the district yesterday showed very low or non-detectable fungal concentrations in the building.
The report did identify one isolated extremely low-level detection of mold in the STEAM campus’ LGI room where school board meetings are held. As a precaution, access to that room will be restricted. Remediation will occur, and the room will not be utilized until follow-up testing reveals it is safe.
While elevated moisture is still detected in some of the Saltsburg classrooms, dehumidifiers will still be used and areas will be cleaned as recommended. The district will also evaluate exterior drainage and grading to improve runoff.
Geesey said in her statement that “While the results do not indicate a widespread mold problem, we will continue to address the moisture concerns, complete the recommended follow-up, and take appropriate preventative measures to maintain a healthy learning environment for our students and staff.”
