The Steelers’ Joey Porter Jr. was limited again in practice yesterday, the only player on the active roster with any restrictions. Coach Mike McCarthy said Porter continues the “ramp up” process after missing training camp with a purported back injury that is also suspected to be as much about his contract situation. He is seeking an extension and the Steelers do not negotiate after the season begins, so they are nearing a self-imposed deadline. Porter’s contract expires after this season.
The Steelers will practice today and do a walk-through tomorrow.
Sunday’s opponent, the Atlanta Falcons, might have more upheaval in their quarterback room. Tua Tagovailoa left practice yesterday with a suspected oblique injury. If he can’t go, third stringer Cooper Rush is expected to get the start, with Michael Penix Jr. still not ready to play.

The San Francisco 49ers opened their season with a dominant 27-7 win over the preseason Super Bowl-favorite Rams in Melbourne, Australia. Brock Purdy threw three touchdown passes and the ‘Niners offensive line held Rams defensive end Myles Garrett to no sacks.
