IUP held its traditional ceremony to commemorate the attacks of September 11th, 2001 in the Oak Grove earlier today.
The ceremonies not only paid tribute to the over 2997 people who died on that day, but IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll said it also was a tribute to three others who died and had close ties to the university.
Army Lt. Colonel Laura Hamilton, the chair of IUP’s department of Military Science commented on the fact that an entire generation is learning about 9/11 through history books.
The keynote speaker was 1980 IUP Graduate and Retired Army Major General Leslie Purser, who said it was always important to remember the events of that day.
