The Steelers’ injury report released yesterday had only one name on it…Joey Porter Jr. was listed as a limited participant due to his lingering back problem, but he is expected to play Sunday against the Falcons.
The Falcons’ injury report for Sunday’s season opener listed five players as limited: Wide receiver Zachariah Branch, offensive lineman Kyle Hinton, defensive linemen Brandon Dorius and Za’Darius Smith, and cornerback Billy Bowman Jr. all practiced with a variety of ailments while quarterback Michael Penix Jr. who will not play Sunday, was a full practice participant.
Coach Mike McCarthy says being able to coach his hometown team for the first two games of the season is exciting, and it’s an advantage for the Steelers.
McCarthy says he’ll use plenty of players on Sunday to take advantage of the Steelers’ depth.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers says it will be a special moment for Mike McCarthy to lead the Steelers onto the field at Acrisure Stadium.
Rodgers is looking forward to working with McCarthy again after their years in Green Bay, even though he says McCarthy’s accent sometimes needs interpretation.

In a Super Bowl rematch, Seattle erased a 10-0 deficit and beat New England 13-10 to kick off the season last night. Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold left the game after just five plays with a hip injury. The Seattle defense intercepted the Patriots’ Drake Maye three times and sacked him three times, all in the fourth quarter.
Tonight, the Rams and 49ers kick off in Australia. Former Pitt star Aaron Donald did not accompany the Rams Down Under, after last week announcing his return to the NFL after two years in retirement.
