Today marks the first day of class for Homer-Center Elementary School students after a delay due to mold found on campus.
On August 22nd, the district announced that aspergillus spores were found in some of the elementary classrooms, saying that this was due to the higher-than-normal humidity levels this summer and a power outage that caused a reset malfunction in the building’s chiller. While initially delayed until September 1st, the entire wing of the elementary school was cleaned as a precaution. After a delay for all students, middle and high school students started class on September 1st while the elementary grade levels saw further delays.
Students return after teachers came back to set up their classrooms on Tuesday and paraeducators returned Wednesday. No word yet on how the missed days for the elementary levels will be made up.
