A highly anticipated meeting of the Indiana County Planning Commission will be held at 5:00 tonight and on the agenda is the review of parcels in Center and Blacklick townships concerning the Homer City Generation plant and possible Amazon AI data centers at six sites.
The project is being seen as a significant economic engine for Indiana County, with Amazon Web Services anticipating 1500 to 2000 full time jobs with wages between $80,000 and $100,000, and the company is committed to investing in local talent. In an interview yesterday on Indiana in the Morning, AWS’ Principal in Economic Development, Global Infrastructure Expansion Becky Ford said that today’s meeting is just the start of the process for the approval of the plans for the sites.
Opponents to the plan say they are concerned with water and noise pollution, health concerns and concerns over the project’s transparency.
The meeting will start at 5:00 PM tonight in Courtroom 1 of the Indiana County Courthouse, with overflow areas being provided by the other courtrooms. The meeting will also be streamed on our Facebook Page and on Zoom. The Zoom link is below:
