TRANSPORT OF MASSIVE ENERGY GENERATORS TO HCR CAMPUS TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK

The Homer City Redevelopment power plant currently under construction in Center Township is prepping for the arrival of its generating equipment, and that process is set to get underway.  Edwards Moving and Rigging will begin transporting fifteen Heat Recovery Steal Generators – known as HRSGs  on Monday, September 14^th, and there may be periodic traffic delays as the units make their way from Schenley, in Allegheny County, to the Homer City Energy Campus on Power Plant Drive.

The fifteen HRSG modules are massive, ranging in weight from 228,000 pounds to 438,000 pounds, and will be moved using specialized Goldhofer modular trailers.  Police escorts and specialized bucket trucks will accompany the transports, with the bucket trucks safely raising or clearing traffic signals, utility lines, and other overhead infrastructure.  Top speeds will be three to four miles per hour in urban areas, 12 to 18 miles per hour on open highways.  All bridges will be crossed at walking speed with only the transport allowed on the bridge, effectively shutting down the bridge to other traffic.

The enormous generators were shipped from overseas to the Port of Mobile in Alabama and after making their way to Schenley on barges using inland waterways, the first three units arrived at Schenley yesterday, and are being prepared for their final over-the-road journey to Center Township today.

The first unit will move out next Wednesday, arriving on Thursday.  The trip will require special dollies along Route 22 and at the Black Lick Creek bridge.  The empty trailer will return to Schenley and the second unit will be shipped beginning on Saturday, September 12^th.  Other modules will be shipped starting on September 16^th, 19^th, 23^rd, 26^th, and 30^th, and on October 1^st, 5^th, 6^th, 8^th, 9^th, 14^th, and 15^th.

Edwards is asking motorists to be patient, remain alert, follow the direction of police and traffic-control personnel, and give the transports a wide berth.
