More information has been released concerning the delivery of massive generating equipment to the natural gas-fired power plant going up in Homer City.
The first of three phases of these deliveries will start September 14th and run through October 16th, with phase two starting November 5th and wrap up before Thanksgiving. After taking the holidays off, the final phase will start January 4th. Twenty pieces will be moved during the first phase alone.
Tim Ernst with Ewards Moving and Rigging says that the big issue is making sure that the infrastructure is not negatively impacted by the move.
The route from Sewickley to the Homer City site has been carefully selected to make sure the loads can make their way through safely. This includes utilizing special bucket trucks to lift overhead wires, traffic signals and trees out of the way to keep the path clear. Crews will also have to traverse bridges using bridge jumpers that will be installed as the loads approach the bridge. Ernst said that in some cases, they can’t just take the direct route.
Ernst also acknowledged that these deliveries will draw crowds of onlookers and he said that it’s appreciated, but to give them plenty of room to move.
Energy production at the plant is slated to start in 2027 or 2028.
