An Indiana man was charged in Jefferson County with punching a woman in a vehicle when she refused to give him her cell phone.
Court documents show 50-year-old Matthew Smith faces charges in connection with the incident on July 31st at a home on Lenyok Road in Young Township. The woman told state troopers that he picked her up at a restaurant in Punxsy and drove her towards Young Township when he demanded a cell phone from the woman’s boyfriend, who was taken into custody earlier that day. When she refused, Smith reportedly punched her in the head and ear, then ordered her out of the car and drove away without her. The woman walked to a nearby house to call 911.
Smith faces charges of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. A preliminary hearing is set for September 8th before district judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock.
