Ligonier Valley Schools remain closed today as air quality testing and mold remediation continues at the district’s four buildings.
In a statement issued yesterday, Superintendent Matthew Mols said that the district’s cleaning contractor Servpro has started remediation efforts at R.K. Mellon Elementary School in Ligonier. Once the cleaning is complete, air quality testing will be performed to make sure that the building is safe for occupation. Last week, district officials said mold was found in three classrooms at that building. Meanwhile, air quality testing is going on at the Laurel Valley Elementary School and the district’s middle and high schools as a precaution. Any decision on reopening the schools will be made after a review of the reports made to the district’s environmental consultant.
Meanwhile, mold remediation efforts continue at Homer-Center’s elementary school, but students in grades 7-12 will head to school today, along with ICTC students. Aspergillus spores were found in the elementary building and Servpro is also working on cleaning the classrooms.
