The Steelers built an early lead but ended up losing to Buffalo, 28-27 in the preseason finale last night.
Top draft choice Max Iheanachor played for the first time after his return this week from a neck/shoulder injury. Both Will Howard and Drew Allar appear to have made the team, according to coach Mike McCarthy, and other standouts last night included rookie seventh-round draft pick Eli Heidenreich and receiver, return man Kaden Wetjen, who ran back a punt 45 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
On the injury front, veteran Ben Skowronek was helped off the field after making a tackle on special teams and Howard was evaluated for a possible head injury.
The Steelers finished 1-and-2 and will host the Atlanta Falcons in Week One on September 13th.
The Steelers must cut the roster from 90 players to 53 by 6 PM Sunday. McCarthy says they will be sensitive to what it means to tell a plyer he didn’t make the team.
ESPN reports the Steelers have restructured DK Metcalf’s contract, converting most of the $25 million he’s due from salary to a signing bonus. That will clear $18 million off the salary cap.
