Work continues to remediate mold at Homer-Center Elementary School but that project has grown to levels larger than anticipated.
On Saturday, district officials announced that the start of school would be delayed to September 1st as aspergillus spores had developed at the school due to exceptionally warm and humid conditions this summer and a power outage earlier this month caused a reset malfunction for the chiller. Cleaning crews have been at the building to eliminate mold that was found in the building, but Superintendent Ralph Cecere says they are cleaning all the rooms on that wing as a precaution. Senior project manager Keith Bailey with Servpro says that the project is bigger than first anticipated.
Bailey said that tests have been performed throughout the school, and they are hopeful that they can get things cleaned for teachers to come back and set up the classrooms for the first student day on September 1st.
