Amy Joy Bertoncini, 76 formerly of Shadyside, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 in Greene Health & Rehab Center, Greensburg, PA. Amy was born December 5, 1949 in Indiana, PA, the daughter of the late Elmer Bertoncini and Betty (Kish) Bertoncini. In addition to her parents, Amy was preceded in death by Joseph Nickerson, her life partner.
Amy was a buyer and manager for Gordon Shoes in Bloomfield, PA for over 30 years. Many of her associates became lasting friends. Amy was an avid New York Times crossword solver and voracious reader. She loved the cinema, classic movies and all the jazz greats. Amy lived her life as a liberal Democrat.
She is survived by her sisters: Jamie Penich (Ron), Greensburg and Leann Thelin (Bill), Akron, OH; brother, Michael Bertoncini (Mary Jo), Blairsville; nephew, Jessie Penich, Marietta, OH; niece, Katrina Montgomery (Jake), OH; great niece & nephew, Hailey & Morgan Montgomery; loving step-daughter, Nell Hartley (David), West Palm Beach, FL; step-granddaughter, Zoey Hartley; close friend, Meg Nickerson; many loving cousins, and her Aunt Deanna Bertoncini.
According to Amy’s wishes, there will be no public viewing. The family will receive friends at the Ferguson Funeral Home & Monument Company, 25 W. Market St. Blairsville, PA 15717 on Saturday, September 5, 2026 from Noon till 1 PM. A blessing service will follow at 1 PM with Fr. Philip White officiating. Interment will be held in the SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, Pennsylvania. If so desired, the family suggests contributions be made to the Westmoreland or Allegheny Food Bank in Amy’s honor.
