Indiana County’s District Attorney has offered further comment on his ruling on an officer-involved shooting in late June that left the suspect dead.
On June 28th, Indiana Borough police were investigating a domestic incident on North Cherry Avenue when Andrew Herman threatened officers with a shovel. He eventually dropped the shovel and fled, starting a foot chase that ended when he pulled a pocketknife and stabbed the officer. Manzi said the officer tried to use a taser to bring Herman into custody, but it did not work.
Manzi added that he was happy with the thoroughness of the investigation performed by State Police.
The officer has been on administrative leave since the shooting, but Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl said that the officer has healed from their injuries and will be restored to active duty once administrative leave is complete.
