The Altoona Curve announced on Tuesday that the team is creating its own Hall of Fame to honor players, coaches, staff and others who have made significant impact on the team’s history.
The first class of the Hall of Fame, which will be recognized before the game against the Erie Seawolves on August 30th will be the Lozniak Family, including original franchise founders Bob and Joan. The Altoona natives were instrumental in bringing the minor league ballclub to the area in 1997. The Lozniak family has owned the team for 18 of the first 25 years of the Curve’s existence, with the exception of a period between 2001 and 2008.
The team will also honor three individuals with the Lozniak Lifetime Achievement Award. Curve PA Announcer Rich DeLeo will be honored with the award this year. The team will also honor posthumously official scorer Ted Beam and Altoona Mirror sports editor Jim Lane.
There will be a display inside Peoples Natural Gas Field in 2027 for the Hall of Fame, with the first class consisting of players and coaches to be inducted later that season. More information on a ballot and fan voting for the 2027 Altoona Curve Baseball Hall of Fame Class is coming soon.
