The Homer-Center School district is delaying the start of the 2026-27 school year to Tuesday, September 1st due to mold spores found on campus.
In a statement, Superintendent Ralph Cecere said that “The exceptionally warm and humid weather experienced this summer has created challenging conditions within portions of the elementary building.”. While crews have been working hard to get things ready, crews discovered aspergillus spores in areas of the building. The district is working with a professional environmental cleaning company to clean the area and make sure it is safe for students and staff.
Cecere said while this is the most responsible course of action, he apologized for the delay and any trouble it may cause. The delay will be for both the elementary and high school grades. This will not affect any extra-cirricular activities, including the start of high school football season, which is August 28th against Northern Cambria.
