A collision between a small plane and police helicopter left one person dead and two state troopers injured in Cumberland County.
Authorities in the town of Carlisle say a police helicopter was hovering near the runway at the regional airport Wednesday when a Cessna 150 approached it from behind. Investigators say the plane veered to the right at the last moment but struck the helicopter’s tail rotor and crashed a short distance away, killing the pilot. The helicopter also crashed after the incident, injuring two troopers who are reportedly in stable condition. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said the crash “could have been much worse.”
