Fair season arrives in the area with the opening of the Dayton Fair this week. After pre-fair activities yesterday, including some of the judging of exhibits and some pulling events in front of the grandstand, there is horse and pony pulling this afternoon (1 PM) followed by the Vespers service at seven o’clock, and then at eight by the crowning of the fair queen. There’s a full day of activities tomorrow, with the fair officially opening at one o’clock. The fair continues all the way through Saturday.
The Indiana County Fair opens August 29th, with pre-fair activities including harness racing getting underway on Thursday the 27th.
Then the community fairs begin, starting with the Ox Hill Fair September 6th through the 12th, and finally the Cookport Fair, September 14th through the 19th.
