Leaders with the Derry Area School District are installing new weapons detection systems in their buildings.
Three Open Gate scanning systems are being installed in the district’s elementary school and another three are going in the middle and high school. Superintendent Greg Ferencak says the scanners work without having to do bag checks, cutting down on the time that it takes for students to get into the buildings.
Students and staff will have an opportunity to hear about the systems and ask questions when classes start up on August 24th.
