PennDOT and Pennsylvania State Police are reminding drivers to celebrate responsibly this Labor Day weekend as part of a national crackdown on impaired driving.
The enforcement campaign runs through September 7th, with state and local police increasing patrols and looking for drivers impaired by alcohol, illegal drugs or prescription medications.
Last year, Pennsylvania saw more than 8,600 crashes involving impaired drivers, resulting in 258 deaths and more than 880 suspected serious injuries. State police made 538 DUI arrests during last year’s Labor Day weekend and investigated 60 impaired-driving crashes, including three that were fatal.
Officials are reminding anyone planning to drink or use drugs to arrange a safe ride home and never get behind the wheel impaired.
