Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday is backing new federal restrictions on hemp-derived products, saying the changes would help close a loophole allowing intoxicating THC products to be sold with limited regulation.
According to a Spotlight PA article, the new rules, set to take effect Nov. 12, would impose a strict limit on total THC in hemp products and effectively ban products such as delta-8 and delta-10. Hemp industry officials say the restrictions go too far and could eliminate most of the state’s consumable hemp market, including some non-intoxicating CBD products.
Pennsylvania has 170 licensed hemp growers and 32 processors, with the industry estimated to contribute up to $1.4 billion annually to the state’s economy. Industry advocates are urging Congress to delay the changes and give lawmakers more time to develop regulations they say would protect consumers without destroying legitimate businesses.
