With the loss of commercial flights, Arnold Palmer Regional Airport is expected to lose as much as $300,000 dollars in revenue through the end of the year.
Spirit Airlines officially stopped operations out of the facility in May.
According to the Tribune Review, Airport Executive Director Maurice Haas says losing commercial flights created a big hole in the airport’s $5.1 million operating budget. The airport also laid off 25 employees, about half its staff.
But officials say the airport remains busy, with more than 27,000 takeoffs and landings recorded through July.
Airport officials are talking with two potential airlines and are waiting on $805,000 federal grant that could help bring commercial service back.
