The numbers paint a grim picture for the Pirates. Before the All-Star break, they were 50-47 and averaging 5.3 runs per game. Since the All-Star break they’re 7-12, averaging 3.7 runs per game. And Pirates batters lead the Major Leagues in strikeouts, with 1,101.
For the second straight game, Pirates hitters couldn’t catch up to the Brewers’ pitchers, resulting in another loss, and by the exact same score.

Manager Donnie Kelly says Paul Skenes was better last night than he’s been recently, but he still had problems.
The Pirates made more roster moves prior to the game yesterday, the most notable being the release of veteran Marcell Ozuna, who hit just .203 with eight home runs and 29 RBIs. Leading the International League with a .330 batting average, Ronny Simon was recalled. He pinch hit for Jhostynxon Garcia and was 0-for-1 with a walk in two plate appearances.
Pitcher Evan Sisk was reinstated from the injured list and threw a scoreless inning, walking one and striking out two. Wilber Dotel was sent to Indianapolis to open up a roster spot for Sisk.
