Coach Pat Narduzzi opens his twelfth season at Pitt with the start of training camp today. The Panthers were 8-5 overall, 6-2 in the ACC last year, good for a third-place conference tie with Miami, SMU, and Georgia Tech.
Pitt lost to East Carolina, 31-27, in the Go Bowling Military Bowl in Annapolis, Maryland last season.
Sophomore quarterback Mason Heintschel returns to direct the offense. As a freshman, he stepped in for Eli Holstein and proceeded to go 6-2, throwing for sixteen touchdowns, eight interceptions, and completing 63.6 percent of his passes for 2,354 yards.
NCAA
Ohio State will open the college football season ranked first in the coaches poll, followed by Oregon, Georgia, Texas and Notre Dame. Curt Cignetti’s reigning national champion Indiana Hoosiers are ranked sixth. Miami, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss round out the top ten.
Penn State is ranked seventeenth. Pitt is not ranked.
