On Wednesday, Homer City Generation welcomed leaders, faculty and staff from IUP to the energy campus for a guided tour of the site.
The visit is meant to build on the partnership between the company and educational institutions to prepare future talent. IUP officials were given a bus tour of the site highlighting the major milestones, and attended an educational session with representatives from HCG and Kiewit Power Constructors to learn more about the overall development vision, project timeline, and the anticipated economic impact on the region.
In a statement, IUP Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Laura Luetkehans said it made sense for the two to be in conversation about how the two sides can work together to serve the region. Homer City Generation CEO Corey Hessen said they looked forward to “expanding our collaboration in ways that create new academic and research opportunities for students and faculty while supporting innovation, workforce development and economic growth across the region.”
The two entities will continue to explore ways to connect the project to the university’s academic mission, including potential opportunities for student learning, faculty engagement, workforce development and related industry contributions.
