A man convicted of killing his former girlfriend in Westmoreland County is asking for a new trial.
Thomas Stanko was found guilty of first-degree murder back in February in the death of Cassandra Gross. Gross was reported missing in 2018 and has since been declared dead, though her body was never found. In a hearing held this week, Stanko and his attorney made the claim that prosecutors had presented insufficient evidence at trial and could not even prove the death of the victim.
The judge has said he will give a ruling on the appeal later this year.
