Normally, George P. Miller Stadium is the home ground for “The Legend” IUP Marching Band, but this weekend, they will host two other bands as they get ready for contests with Drum Corps International.
Practices will be held at the stadium on Saturday for the Music City Drum and Bugle Corps of Nashville. The team will work in and around the stadium from mid-morning to late afternoon before the band heads to Pittsburgh for the DCI Competition that night at Baldwin High School Stadium. On Sunday, Phantom Regiment of Rockford, Illinois will work the full day at the stadium from 11 AM to 10 PM. Both squads are highly ranked in DCI, with Music City finishing 16th at the 2025 world championships and Phantom Regiment being a two-time champion.
Associate Director of Bands and Director of IUP’s Marching Band Dr. William Sugg called the scheduling of two great marching bands on back-to-back days an excellent gift. He said that the community will be able to watch the bands at work. Visitors should know that these are rehearsals rather than performances, with all the stopping, repeating, and adjusting that implies; spectators are welcome to arrive and leave at any point during the day.
IUP band camp will open next week.
