Experts say a downburst is responsible for damage to trees and utility poles in Ligonier yesterday afternoon.
First responders were called after issues were first reported around 5:30 p.m. National Weather Service Meteorologist Matt Brudy explains a downburst occurs when a strong updraft suspends rain and hail in the sky until the precipitation gets too heavy and it falls to the ground in a concentrated area.
Strong winds and heavy rain are again possible in the Pittsburgh area this morning as additional storms move in.
