The Pirates’ starting pitchers were firing zeroes yesterday, but the bullpen staggered again, as the Bucs split a doubleheader with the Yankees.

The Bucs’ manager explained why he took Bubba Chandler out of the game after six-and-a-third innings.
Center fielder Jake Mangum fouled a ball off his right foot in the fourth inning of the first game. He finished the game and was penciled into the lineup for the nightcap, but the foot swelled up and he was replaced by Billy Cook. Mangum expects to be ready to play this weekend.
The Pirates are off today and open a three-game series against the NL Central Division rival Cubs at PNC Park tomorrow night.
Another draft pick is in the fold for the Pirates, but general manager Ben Cherington has a very busy few days ahead of the Monday 5 PM deadline to sign this year’s draftees. Yesterday, second-round supplemental pick Chris Rembert signed on. The All-SEC second baseman hit .343 with four homers and 46 RBIs for Auburn this year. He was the 51st overall choice in the draft.
Rembert is the eleventh draft choice signed by the Pirates. Ten more are unsigned, including the first-round selection, LSU outfielder Derek Curiel and their second-rounder, high school shortstop Aidan Ruiz.
