With NFL training camps opening this week and reporting day coming on Tuesday at Saint Vincent, the Steelers still have not signed quarterback Drew Allar, their third round draft choice. In fact, the top four quarterbacks taken in the draft this year are still without contracts. Top overall selection Fernando Mendoza hasn’t agreed to a deal yet with the Raiders, nor have 13th overall selection Ty Simpson with the Rams or third rounder Carson Beck with the Cardinals.
Allar is one of the big question marks heading into camp. The Steelers still have to make a decision on carrying four quarterbacks on the roster or risk losing Allar or Will Howard to a another team.
Perhaps the other big question mark for coach Mike McCarthy and general manager Omar Khan is what to do about tackle Broderick Jones, who seems destined for the physically unable to perform list with his lingering neck injury from Week Twelve of last season. He later had neck fusion surgery and has taken part in only some of the offseason workouts.
