The smoke from Canada’s wildfires forced last night’s Pirates/Guardians game to be postponed as the air quality at Progressive Field was poor. At 5:00 PM yesterday, air quality index levels in Cleveland were at 211, well above the healthy levels. The game will be made up today as a double-header with first pitch for game 1 at 1:10. The pre-game show is set for 12:45 on WCCS. Game two is set to start at 7:10 PM, with a 6:45 pre-game on WCCS. The Pirates are expected to send Friday’s starter Jared Jones to start game one. Game two’s starter has not been announced, but the team is set on having Paul Skenes start on Sunday. Braxton Ashcraft was originally scheduled to start today’s game. Gavin Williams will start Game 1 for Cleveland and Logan Allen will start game two.
The Pirates front office was busy signing six of the players drafted during the MLB draft on Sunday. Pitchers Ryan Marohn, Tyler Fay, Bryson Moore, Alex Overbay and Michael Gibson along with third baseman Tre Phillips III were all assigned to the Pirates franchise in the Florida Complex League.
