Yesterday, the Pirates promoted slugging infielder Murf Gray from high-A Greensboro to Double-A Altoona and he paid immediate dividends for the Curve as he helped them win 6-2 over Reading last night.
In the fourth inning, Gray smashed his 23rd homer of the season and first at the double-A level to give the Curve a 2-0 lead. Curve starter Domenic Perachi gave up two runs in the fourth, but Altoona took the lead back in the 6th when Derek Berg scored on a wild pitch. Keiner Delgado had a two-run shot in the 7th and Lonnie White, Jr. hit an RBI double in the eighth. The curve bullpen squad of Dominic Pipkin, Landon Tomkins and Jake Shirk held the Fightin’ Phils to only one hit over the final five innings.
The two teams will play again tonight with Peyton Stumbo starting for the Curve.
