The 29-year relationship between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Wheeling Nailers has come to an end.
The future of the relationship had been in question ever since the Hoffmann Family of Companies acquired the Penguins last month for one-point-seven-billion-dollars. The Nailers have been affiliated with the Penguins since 1998. However, the new owners of the Penguins also own the Florida Everblades and said they had planned to keep the Everblades.
The Nailers have not yet announced a new NHL affiliation, though their options could include Columbus, Buffalo, New York and Utah.
