A Greensburg man is due in court today in connection with an attempted homicide in 2023.
Court documents show that 38-year-old Michael Aaron Whitfield faces two counts of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment, and single counts of attempted kidnapping, attempted kidnapping to facilitate a felony, robbery of a motor vehicle, robbery-inflicting serious injury, and terroristic threats for the incident that happened in July of 2023.
On that day, Whitfield allegedly cut the unnamed victim on her face and neck with a boxcutter in the parking lot of Keeper of the Flame in Blairsville, stole her SUV, which had her 9-year-old child in it, then drove to Derry and robbed an ice cream shop and a food truck. He then left the SUV there and stole a pickup truck. He was apprehended in Georgia the next day.
Also due for a motions hearing today is 77-year-old Ronald Weiss, who is accused of the 1978 murder of Barbra Bruzda. The hearing today is to address the use of the transcripts of his original trial.
