The transportation order was filed last week and Ronald Weiss is due in court on Tuesday for a motions hearing, with his murder retrial about six weeks away.
The 78-year-old Weiss was convicted in 1997 of the October 1978 murder of 16-year-old Barbara Bruzda, but the conviction was overturned by a federal judge in 2018 due to prosecutorial misconduct by the state attorney general’s office and a state trooper who testified against Weiss. He was released, but immediately re-arrested and the case has been slowly making its way toward a re-trial ever since.
The hearing on Tuesday is to address the use of the transcripts of the original trial. Weiss will be brought to Indiana from SCI Laurel Highlands in Somerset.
Jury selection for the new trial is scheduled for August 24th.
