Movement on the overdue state budget could happen soon.
The state senate has been called to Harrisburg this weekend after recessing for the Independence Day Holiday, a move that House Democrat Leadership said was “frustrating”. In a memo issued on Wednesday, members were told that progress was made and their presence was needed in Harrisburg.
Appropriations and Judiciary Committee members will be at the state capitol tonight while the rest of the Senate should be ready to vote over the weekend. The State House, meanwhile, announced a voting session will start at noon on Sunday.
The state budget deadline was June 30th but in recent years, the deadline passed without a spending plan in place. Key issues in the budget include legalization of recreational marijuana and skill games, minimum wage and the rate of state spending.
