A Clymer woman who stole over $250,000 from The Open Door of Indiana County was ordered to serve up to a day less than two years in Indiana County Jail.
On top of the jail time, Judge Michael Clark ordered 55-year-old Carol J. Polenik to serve four years of probation upon her release. Authorities said that the thefts happened July of 2024 and June of 2025 when she was employed by the organization. Within 24 hours of her last day of work, the financial discrepancies were discovered. Police said that she tried to cover up the theft by destroying a credit card and hiding account information, but police were able to put together enough necessary records to file charges of theft. The money she took was used for personal expenses including online gambling.
Charges of tampering with records and unauthorized access were not prosecuted as part of the plea deal. Court documents said she will start serving her sentence on July 31st.
