A woman charged with taking over $250,000 from The Open Door of Indiana County is due in court today for sentencing.
Court documents show that 55-year-old Carol Jean Polenik of Clymer pleaded guilty in April of this year to a charge of theft by unlawful taking for thefts that happened between July of 2024 and June of 2025. This happened when she was employed by the organization. Authorities say Polenik tried to cover her tracks by destroying a credit card and hiding account information, but troopers were able to recover the necessary records. The investigation revealed that Polenik used the stolen funds for personal expenses, including online gambling. The discovery was made within 24 hours of her final day of work as staffers discovered the financial irregularities.
Charges of tampering with records and unauthorized access were not prosecuted.
