Heavy thunderstorms swept through Indiana County on Saturday afternoon, causing widespread power outages and calling into action firefighters from across the area.
Indiana County 911 fielded calls for utility lines down at numerous locations, with Montgomery and Green townships particularly hard hit. Firefighters from Commodore, Cherry Tree, and Glen Campbell were dispatched to Route 286, Cherry Tree Road, Pioneer Lake Drive, Arcadia Road, and King Road in Montgomery Township; and to Route 286 and Route 240 in Green Township; and Marion Center and Plumville were sent to Leasure Run Road in North Mahoning Township.
Also, firefighters from Commodore, Cherry Tree, Clymer, and the Hope company out of Cambria County were summoned for a structure fire last night at about 10 PM along Hog Hollow Lane in Green Township.
As of early this morning, more than 500 REA customers and several dozen Penelec customers in Indiana County were still without service.
