With a motions hearing coming July 14th in the Ronald Weiss retrial for the murder of 16-year-old Barbara Bruzda in 1978, both the prosecution and defense have been lining up their cases.
In 1997, almost twenty years after Bruzda’s death, Weiss was convicted of killing her, and now, almost fifty years later, he is being re-tried after a federal judge overturned the verdict in 2018.
Prosecutors with the state attorney general’s office filed a motion on May 28th asking Indiana County President Judge Thomas Bianco to admit into evidence and read at trial the transcripts of the original trial, and there have been several subsequent motions, including one by the defense for the exclusion of previous testimony. Last week the prosecution filed its response to the defense motion.
Weiss will turn 79 years old later this month. Jury selection for the new trial is scheduled for August 24th.
