Once again, the deadline for the 2026-27 Pennsylvania Fiscal Year budget has passed and a spending plan is not in place.
The PA house will be in session for the next two days to work on budget-related issues while the Senate stands in recess until their presence is requested by the President Pro Tempore Kim Ward. Senator Joe Pittman is optimistic that both parties will be able to reach an agreement soon.
One of the sticking points according to Pittman has been the issue of Pennsylvania’s minimum wage, which is currently $7.25 an hour and has not gone up since 2009. He said that he would like to see both sides “meet in the middle” on the issue.
Other key sticking points include the legalization of recreational marijuana and skill games, the overall spending amount and the use of rainy day funds.
